Manila, Pebrero 20, 2012 - Isa na namang Pinoy ang hihirangin bilang Santo ngayong Oktubre., ang Cebuano teenage martyr na si Pedro Calungsod na tatawagin ding San Pedro de Cebu.
Inihayag kahapon, araw ng Linggo ni Pope Benedict XVI ang cannonization ni Blessed Pedro Calungsod at ng anim na iba pang religious sa nalalapit na Oktubre 21, 2012.
Ayon kay Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, presidente ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), ay ipinakalat na ang naturang balita sa mga simbahan sa ilalim ng Archdiocese of Cebu kahapon, Pebrero 19.
“We will exhort the various committees to implement action programs. I will give instructions to the auxiliary bishops and vicars general. All we do is repeat the official announcement made by the Pope,” ani Palma sa isang panayam.
Ang iba pang kikilalaning mga bagong santo ay sina Jacques Berthieu, French martyr at priest ng Society of Jesus; Giovanni Battista Piamarta, Italian priest at founder ng Congregation of the Holy Family of Nazareth; Maria del Carmen, Spanish foundress ng Conceptionist Missionary Sisters of Teaching; Maria Anna Cope, German religious ng Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis sa Syracuse, USA; Kateri Tekakwitha, American laywoman; at Anna Schaffer, German laywoman.
