CONGEN MEETS LOMBARDY DIRECTOR GENERAL OF ITALIAN SOCIAL SECURITY

Milan, Sept. 16, 2014 – Consul General Marichu Mauro paid a courtesy call on Mr. Antonio Pone of the Istituto Nazionale Previdenza Sociale or INPS (National Institute for Social Security), who just assumed office on 1 September 2014 as Director General for the Lombardy region.

She requested for a regular collaboration between the Consulate and INPS to receive information and updates that will benefit Filipino workers in Italy who are INPS members. Mr. Pone assured that his institution will support the Filipino community.

The Consulate plans to organize a seminar that will address questions and issues regarding benefits provided by INPS. Mr. Pone positively welcomed this initiative with the objective of sharing important information to the community.

Consul General Mauro also raised the value of portability of social security benefits between Filipinos and Italians. Since there is quite a huge Filipino population in Italy, Mr. Pone believed that concluding an agreement would be beneficial for both parties since it will make all the procedures simpler and easier to implement.

The INPS is the main institution handling social security benefits in Italy. Social insurance is compulsory for employed and self-employed workers, including migrant workers. All are entitled to an equal treatment as regards social insurance deductions and have the right to claim allowances and other social security benefits. (PCG – Milan)
